Looking to do a little ghost hunting of your own this Halloween? Dennis William Hauck, in "Haunted Places: The National Directory" (Penguin, $15.95), cites these graveyards as the most likely in Chicago and vicinity to spy a specter:

1. White Cemetery, Cuba Road just east of Old Barrington Road, Barrington.

2. Evergreen Cemetery, 87th Street and Kedzie Avenue.

3. Graceland Cemetery, Irving Park Road and Clark Street.

4. Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Harrison Street west of Roosevelt Road, Hillside.

5. Resurrection Cemetery, 7600 S. Archer Ave., Justice.

6. Bachelor's Grove Cemetery, Midlothian Turnpike at Rubio Woods Forest Preserve, Midlothian.

7. Jewish Waldheim Cemetery, Des Plaines Avenue and Roosevelt Road, North Riverside.

8. Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, between 111th and 115th Streets west of Cicero Avenue, Worth.
